Elton Earl Colbert was born April 24, 1936 in Pensacola, Florida to Willard and Myrtle (Beck) Colbert. He tragically passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021, in Marlow at the age of 84.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 29, at 2:00 P.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Randy Southerland officiating. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center.
Elton was a tribal member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians-Alabama. He graduated from Pensacola, Florida public schools. He was employed as a job supervisor for construction of high-rise buildings. He worked alongside his brother, Wilson, remodeling apartment buildings. Elton was a very hard-working, independent person.
He loved traveling in his RV. He also enjoyed riding dune buggies in the California desert. He was a sweet and gentle person who was also kind and helpful. Elton attended New Hope Baptist Church West. He married Nita Jewel Moore on July 12, 2016 in Duncan.
Elton is survived by his wife, Nita; sons, Terry Colbert of Duncan; Elton Lynn Colbert of Atmore, Alabama; brother, Eddie Ray Colbert of Huntington Beach, California; and sister; Janet Whitlock of Riverside, California. He is also survived by Nita's daughters: Karen and husband Chris Nichols of Cabot, Arkansas; Vicki and husband Tom Mason of Washington, Missouri; Carla and John March of Oklahoma City; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren, all of whom he greatly loved and respected.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wilson Colbert; sister-in-law, Lennetta Colbert; and nephew, Sean Stepp.
