Frances Nix Obituary

Elon "Frances" Nix was born in Abilene, Texas on May 7, 1929, to Clifford Olen and Frances LaVell (Carothers) Marler. On the humorous side, she was supposed to be named Ellen Frances; however, on her birth certificate her name was misspelled as Elon and, in adulthood, she used Frances as her first name keeping Elon as her middle name. She passed away in Cyril, Oklahoma on Wednesday, February 26, with her daughter, Kathryn, by her side. She was 90.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 29, at 11:00A.M. in the Celestial Gardens Cemetery, with Roger Snow officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Crews & Cyril Funeral Homes.

Frances was remarried to Bennie Ercell Nix in 1979 for 44 years until his death in 2017. Frances considered herself an apprentice; however, she was an exceptional artist with acrylic and oil paints, using still-life as her muse. She was an avid reader and willing to share her talents and knowledge with anyone interested in learning. Her other passion was gardening as she loved to hoe, which put much food on the table for many years. In the early 70's she raised parakeets by the hundreds in Comanche and took them to market in Waurika where they eventually ended up in pet stores around the nation.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie; parents, Clifford Olen and Frances LaVell Marler; sons, Lanny Nix and David Dunbar; and sisters: Mildred O'Day, Irene Arrowood, LaVerne Boelen, and Maxine Buckles.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Dunbar-Dotson and husband Tony of Cyril; grandchildren: Davida DaLynn Larkins and husband Nick of Boulder, Colorado, Lonnie Nix of California, Alan Nix and wife Tammy of California, and Missy Dunbar of Arkansas; several great grandchildren to include Isabella Blake Larkins and Jada Dunbar; several great great grandchildren; and sister, Geraldine Conlan of Fletcher.

She was an inspiration to all that knew her and will be greatly missed. Her idea of a better place was to be with the Lord ... where she is now.
