Gary Wayne Bruner was born on August 17, 1940, in rural Grady County near Rush Springs, to Byron Haskell and Jewell Estelle (Ferguson) Bruner. He passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020, with his family at his side. He was 79.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a later time at the Rush Springs with Jim Ross, minister of the Minco Church of Christ officiating. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center.
Gary attended Acme and Rush Springs public schools. He married Linda Gail Thomas on December 24, 1959, in Marlow. They raised two children – Gary and Lori.
He was employed as a welder at Cline Industries and Halliburton. He also drove a cross-country truck for Crst Company. He could be found selling vegetables at roadside stands. Gary loved to play Santa Claus and was the official Santa for Rush Springs during the Christmas holidays. For over 25 years, he would make appearances at banks, schools, nursing homes, and McDonalds.
Gary is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda; children: Gary Lynn and wife Alisha Marie Bruner of Marlow and Lori and husband Roy Dorman of Rush Springs; grandchildren: Amanda Leah and husband Chade Nezat, Dustin Kirk Bruner, Thomas Wayne and wife Lauren Bruner, Josie and husband Austin Drake, Dakota and wife Nicole Ward, Lisa Dorman, Lee and wife Casie Dorman, Kristina Bishop, Bryant Kempke, Brandon, and Kyle King; 9 great grandchildren; brother Larry Gene and wife Nancy Bruner; and sisters: Barbara and husband Albert Trent, June Gifford, Sandra Wilder, and Linda and husband Orville Howard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Jewell Bruner.
