Gean Jones Obituary
Gean Paul Jones, 90, longtime Duncan resident, was born on June 15, 1932 in Comanche, Oklahoma to Herman and Emma (Fowler) Jones. He passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, in Duncan Regional Hospital with his family by his side.
The family will greet visitors on Sunday, February 5, between 3:00-5:00 PM at Whitt Funeral Home. Services are planned for Monday, February 6, at 2:00 PM at Unity Baptist Church in Duncan with Bro. David McAllister and Bro. Dan Standifer officiating. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Comanche. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Gean graduated from Comanche High School. After graduation he joined the Air Force where he served four years, stationed in Alaska for two years, He was honorably discharged in 1956. He then went to work for Security National Bank in Duncan, retiring after 39 years. He returned to work at Chickasha Bank & Trust in Cement and from there to Peoples Bank & Trust in Ryan, retiring in 2007.
He married Shirley Riggle in 1956 at Friendship Church, Comanche. They had two sons, Ricky and Cary. They had celebrated 66 years together. He loved his family trips to Lake Texoma, watching grandkids play sports, and summer vacations at resorts in Minnesota with the family. He enjoyed all sports, OU and Dallas Cowboys being his favorites. Gean was a member of Unity Baptist Church, where he served as corporate officer and church trustee.
Gean is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, Ricky Jones of Duncan; daughter-in-law: Mary Everley of Minneapolis, MN; grandsons: Joshua Jones and wife Laura of Marietta, GA, Jacob and wife Melanie of Duncan, Will Jones of Seattle, WA; great-grandchildren: Noah Jones, Jacobie Jones, Landon Jones, Tabitha Majors, Mallory Majors; and great-great grandson, Jonah. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Wade and husband Floyd of Duncan; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Cary Jones; grandson, Jeremy Jones; five brothers; and two sisters.
Memorial donations can be made in Gean's honor to Unity Baptist Church, 1725 Chisholm Drive, Duncan, OK 73533.
