Gene Ray Redden, aged 75, of Duncan, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, April 30th at Duncan Regional Hospital of heart failure following a long illness. Ray was born in Shattuck, Oklahoma and grew up in Cheyenne, Oklahoma, graduating from Cheyenne High School. He was a long-time resident of Temple, Oklahoma, and was known throughout Cotton and Stephens Counties as “the cable guy” through the 1970s and 1980s. He, his father, and his brothers formed Redden Cable TV and brought the first cable television service to this corner of rural SW Oklahoma.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, William Joe and Thelma Naomi Redden. He is survived by his wife, Helen Louise Redden; his older brother, Oran Clarence Redden and his wife, Candy; his older brother, William Jerry Redden and his wife, Judy; his younger sister, Thelma Ann Blood and her husband, Andy; his son, Markus Ray Redden of Duncan, Oklahoma; his daughter, Helen Michelle Lyons-McFarland and her husband, Matthew of Cleveland, Ohio; his grandchildren: Alisdair Nathaniel Lyons, William Robert MacDavid Lyons, and Liberty Rae Redden; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation is available Tuesday, May 3, from 8:00AM to 7:00PM at Whitt Funeral Home, 4748 North 81 Highway, Duncan, Oklahoma. The funeral will be held Wednesday, May 4, at 2:00PM graveside at Duncan Municipal Cemetery, 1910 Cypress Ave, Duncan, Oklahoma, with Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Stephens County Honor Guard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
