Was born November 28, 1928 in Abilene, TX to Silas Lewis and Eula Mary (Box) Hampton. She passed away June 15, 2018 in Lawton, OK.
She graduated from Abilene High School. She married Billy Ray Newton on November 11, 1945 in Abilene, TX. Together, they had three children. Kitty Newton-Rath, Butch Newton and Debbie Newton-Martin. They moved to Lawton, OK in the 1950’s where they raised their family. Mr Newton passed away on January 11, 1967. Gloria later married Cecil Hill, known by their grandchildren as Papa. Mr. Hill passed away in 1985.
Gloria worked for the Ramada Inn, Lawton Housing Authority, Dave’s Laundry, and Rath, Inc., a family business known as “Kitty’s Chicken”. She was affectionately known as “Mema” by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and many others. She was a loving mother and Mema to her entire family. She loved to say, “I can’t believe I’m responsible for this entire crazy crew!” She will always be remembered for her sarcastic sense of humor. She loved to spend time with family at the casino and doing crochet.
