Helma Lanora "Base" McCullough, of Apache, Oklahoma, was born on June 29, 1926, in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma to Willie and Minnie Base. She passed away on May 19, 2020, at her home at the age of 93.
Helma married the love of her life, Raymond LeRoy McCullough on December 15, 1945. They had two children, William Ray McCullough and the late Juanna Sue Boydstun.
She worked very hard on saving and gathering farm equipment while her husband was overseas. When he returned, she had everything needed for them to start their lifelong dream of farming. She worked side by side with Raymond hauling hay and wheat, driving trucks and tractors for endless hours. Raymond used to say she was irreplaceable because she was the best wheat hauler he ever had and no one could replace her. She even managed to cook and deliver all meals to the field.
She enjoyed their traveling adventures, fishing, hunting, antiquing, singing in church, and mostly gathering with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Minnie Base; her sisters; daughter, Juanna Sue Boydstun; and her husband, Raymond LeRoy McCullough.
Helma is survived by her son, William Ray McCullough of Apache; grandchildren: Todd and wife Summer McCullough of Apache, Jina and husband Jason Mindemann of Apache, Tina and husband Justin Lindsey of Fort Cobb, Stacy and husband David Dennington of Stecker, and Kristi and husband John Cunningham of Apache; and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, May 22, at 2:00 P.M. at Fairview Cemetery with John Cahill officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Crews Funeral Home.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
