He was a member of the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church and served as their bookkeeper. He also helped to rebuild the steeple at the church after it burned and he mowed the church lawn for many years. He read The Anadarko Daily News, The Lawton Constitution, and The Apache News daily/weekly. Herb enjoyed playing dominoes and won many championships trophies. He loved to do woodworking/cabinetry projects and repairing guns and fishing poles. Herb also enjoyed deer hunting and had traveled to New Mexico to hunt. He enjoyed his friend, Jed Denton, who came frequently to visit him.
