Jackie Gene Frost

Jackie Gene Frost died Sunday, Nov. 1st, at home after a long illness.

His funeral will be at the First Presbyterian Church in Duncan at 2:00P.M. Thursday, Nov. 5th, with Rev. Mark Henslee officiating. There will be no visitation due to the virus. A private family graveside burial will be held under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.

Jack was born in Robinson, Crawford County, Illinois. As a young child, he attended a small red school house. He attended Robinson High School and graduated in 1954. From there he graduated from Eastern Illinois University where he majored in Chemistry, Physics and a minor in Mathematics. He then attended Duke University where he earned his doctorate in Electro-Physical Chemistry, graduating in 1962. He went to the University of North Carolina 1962-63 as a post Doctoral Associate.

As a young boy, his favorite toys were his guitar and his chemistry set. He never lost the love for either. In music, the thing that gave him so much pleasure was to be a member of the First Presbyterian Choir, which he enjoyed for many years and enjoyed being with the people who enjoyed music and singing as much as he did. Some of his other music activities included being on the board of the American Music Festival, Cameron University Jazz band, Duncan Chamber Ensemble, and played for the Civic Capers for many years. He taught at the Academy of Music at night for 17 years.

He worked at Halliburton as a Research Associate for 30 years and for United Laboratories for 12 years, this being 42 years in research and process development. He published 20 papers and presented many of them. He was a member of the American Corrosive Engineers and the American Chemical Society.

He married Joyce Marie Thornton in Durham in 1963. They have two children, a daughter, Lesli Camille Bush and husband Richard from Houston, Texas, and a son, Thornton Harrison Frost from Portland, Oregon; one granddaughter, Petra Nichole Bush. He has one brother who was always his best friend and confidante, Harry William and wife Gladys from Paris, Illinois; two nephews, one niece, and children of these.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Frost and Ruth Marie Williams Frost.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the First Presbyterian in Duncan or a church of your choice.
