James Churchman Obituary

James Lowell Churchman, age 84, of Comanche, OK, passed away peacefully on April 4th, 2024 at Duncan Regional Hospital in Duncan, OK. Born in Hastings, OK on November 30th, 1939, he was the son of Elbert and Algerine Churchman. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

James graduated from Comanche High School in 1957. Afterwards, he proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy for 4 years. After his military career, James transitioned into civilian life and worked as a machinist for over 40 years. He co-owned and operated C&T Machine until retirement. His craftsmanship and attention to detail were evident in everything he created.

Outside of work, James had a variety of interests and hobbies. He was an avid golfer and a player on the Texoma Senior Men's Tour. He also enjoyed bird hunting with his friends and family. Every spring, you could find James in his garden growing enough vegetables to share with anyone who stopped by the house. James was also a faithful member of Patterson Ave. Baptist Church and his presence will be deeply missed within the congregation.

James's greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He spent countless hours at ballgames, dance recitals, dirt bike races, gymnastic meets, golf tournaments, tennis tournaments, birthday parties, and school events.

Though he was slow to speak, James was quick to teach. He possessed a wealth of knowledge and wisdom. With his words, he would impart guidance and support. In his actions, he taught those around him how to be generous and kind. His quiet and humble giving touched the lives of many, and his kindness will be remembered by all who knew him.

James is survived by his wife, Gail Churchman; his brother, Ronnie Churchman; his children: Todd Churchman and wife Holly; Karee Presgrove and husband Clayton; Brian Churchman and wife Ruth Ann; son-in-law, Alan Simpson;14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Algerine Churchman; his brother, Jody Churchman; his sister, Joyce Curren; and his daughter, Linette Simpson.

A funeral service to celebrate James's life will be held at Patterson Ave. Baptist Church on Saturday, April 6th at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Patterson Ave. Baptist Church in memory of James. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
