James "Jim" Lillard Curry Obituary

James Lillard "Jim" Curry Sr., 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Altus, Oklahoma, on Friday, May 1, 2026. Jim was born on April 3, 1948, in Texas to John and Mercedes (Sullivan) Curry, and from the beginning he carried the spirit of small-town country life that shaped who he was.

Jim worked for many years as an electrician specializing in HVAC systems, lending his skill and steady hands to companies such as Westinghouse and York. Later in life, he spent a decade on the open road as a long-haul truck driver, a job that suited his independent nature and love of wide-open spaces.

An avid outdoorsman, Jim found his greatest joy under open skies. He loved to hunt and never missed a chance to watch hunting shows or swap stories about the ones that got away. Whether it was bird hunting, coyote hunting, or hog hunting, Jim was in his element. In his younger years, he was also a dedicated bow hunter. The outdoors wasn't just a hobby for him-it was home.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patsy (Cole) Curry; his son, James Lillard Curry Jr.; and his sister, Susan Moses.

He is survived by his grandson, Dalton Curry, and Dalton's fiancée, Katelyn Padilla; his great-granddaughters, Aiyanna Curry and Xyleena Curry; and his sister, Cynthia Challacombe.

A graveside funeral service is planned for 1:00 P.M., Monday, May 18, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens with Steve Sullivan officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
