James "Huston" Taylor Obituary

James "Huston" Taylor was born February 13, 1932 in Bolivar Township, Arkansas to Charles Lafayette and Myrtle Lucy (Garrett) Taylor. He completed his earthly journey on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, in Duncan, Oklahoma with his wife, Louise, at his side. He was 91.

The family will greet visitors on Thursday, March 16, between 5:30-7:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. Services are planned for Friday, March 17, at 2:00 P.M. at Bethesda Church of God with Pastor Johnny Gray and Rev. Harold Metheny officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Heath Taylor, Brent Myers, Edward Jackson, Hunter Culp, Raymond Bumpas, and Ben Tickle. Interment will follow in the Duncan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

He married the love of his life, Louise Fay Metheny, on September 22, 1953 in Cash, Arkansas and would have been married 70 years this coming September. They welcomed five children into their family - Violet, David, Red, Bruce and Brian. Huston loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. The family moved to Duncan in 1974.

Huston retired from the City of Duncan in the Parks and Recreational Department in 1988. He enjoyed carpentry work and whittling wood into amazing gadgets and chains with intricate detail. One of the wooden Oklahoma clocks he made is displayed in the Stephens County Museum. He loved playing the banjo and guitar - playing and singing at church. Gardening was a favorite pastime; he could name most every kind of tree and plant. He also enjoyed drawing. He really enjoyed spending time with his family and playing with his little dog, Daisy. He has attended Bethesda Church of God for over forty years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Lonnie Wayne Taylor; and grandchildren: Justin Richardson and Melodee Gibson. He was also preceded by his sisters: Agnes Smallmon, Imogene Taylor, Ethel Coursey, Lottie Johnson; and brothers: J.T. Taylor and Leonard Taylor.

Huston is survived by his loving wife, Louise; children: Violet and husband Herb Richardson of Hindsville, Arkansas, David and wife Kathy Taylor of Duncan, Red and wife Cindy Taylor of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Bruce Taylor and Brian Taylor of Duncan; grandchildren: Heath and wife Ashtin Taylor, Haley and husband Hunter Culp, Kacie and husband Brent Myers, Jennifer Sutton, David Gibson; and great grandchildren: Graham and Taylor Culp, Cash and Brynlee Morgan, Liam and Ella Sutton, Ashlee Gibson.
