James “Jim” Ronald Williams, Jr. was born May 21, 1929 to Dorothy (Fields) and James Ronald Williams, Sr. in Olean, New York. He passed away on Monday, August 16, 2021, in Duncan at the age of 92.
A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Saturday, August 21, at 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church with Kathy Gibson officiating, assisted by Rev. Rudy Freese. Live streaming will be available at www.duncanfumc.org/fumc_live. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Jim graduated from Otto Township High School and received his Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania. He married Wilma Arlene Alderson on September 12, 1952 at Flora, Illinois and had one daughter, Carole. He was employed as a Petroleum Engineer at Halliburton for 40 years.
Christians Concerned was very important to Jim. He was one of the original founders and also served as the first president. He was a member of the FUMC Chancel Choir for 58 years and the Builders Sunday School class. Jim served as a reading mentor at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School. Along with some of his friends, he spent many hours exercising at the Simmons Center regularly and twice weekly met for breakfast and fellowship with his “breakfast bunch.” Jim was also an amateur hand radio operator. He loved his family dearly and especially loved being called “Sir” by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lt. Col. Bruce Williams, Jim is survived by his wife of 68 years, Wilma; daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Billy Bob Bailey; grandchildren: Chad and Kayla Bailey, Ryan and Robyn Bailey; great grandchildren: Jaxon Bailey, Kynadee Bailey, and Reece Bailey; sister, Ann Klemm; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Williams.
