Jere Clyde Thorpe was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on December 24, 1933, to William and Ollie (Payne) Thorpe. He passed away in Yukon, Oklahoma, on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at the age of 89.
Viewing is available Tuesday, November 14, from 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Crews Funeral Home in Apache. A graveside funeral service is planned for Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at the Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma, with Rev. Bill Schneider officiating. The Patriot Guard Riders will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements have been entrusted to Crews Funeral Home.
Jere graduated in 1951 from East Lake High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He joined the United States Army and did 3 tours in Vietnam. Jere served as Chief Warrant Officer before retiring after 33 years of service.
Jere married Attelia Pohlemann and together raised two children, Beth and Ernie. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing and playing billiards. Jere also loved spending time with his wife and traveling throughout the United States and abroad. Jere also loved spending time with his grandchildren. He had a wonderful sense of humor and, above all else, he was very patriotic.
Jere is survived by his children: Beth Mohr and husband Robert and Ernie Thorpe; grandchildren: Christoffer Mohr, Annie Mohr, and Emma Thorpe; great-grandchild, Henry Mohr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Attelia; and brothers: Joe Thorpe, William Thorpe, and Jack Thorpe.
