Jerry Lee Carter was born February 20, 1948, in Clovis, New Mexico to S.L. and Daisy (Thomas) Carter. He passed away on October 29, 2020, at his home in Duncan.
Inurnment services will be held Monday, November 9, at 11:00A.M. in the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin. A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, November 9, at 2:00P.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Doug Burleson, Edmond, OK, officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Stephens County Honor Guard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center.
Jerry graduated from Clovis High School. He joined the US Navy in May 1965, serving on the USS Coral Sea during the Vietnam War. In 1969 he was honorably discharged and transferred to the Naval Reserve. He loved cars and trucks, especially his Studebaker truck. He also enjoyed riding his Honda Helix “Scooter.” Jerry delivered new Halliburton trucks to the field on the weekends. He also worked as a maintenance technician for Duncan Public Schools for 25 years until his retirement in 2007. He was very fond of his dog, Doodle Bug (AKA Cowboy). He loved his granddaughter, Bella “Sweet Pea” and being PaPaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters-in-law, Elvalee Carter and Katy Carter.
Jerry is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Betsy Carter of Morrison, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Bella Carter; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde “Shorty” and Debbie Carter, Clarence “Bug” Carter, D.L. and Molly Carter, W.O. “Cooter” Carter; nieces and nephews; and special friends: Kathryn Carter, Steve Hervey, Mark Hunt, and Tim Golden.
