Jerry was Valedictorian of his senior class of Holdenville High School and attended Oklahoma State University graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering. Jerry obtained his Professional Engineering designation and was also a licensed surveyor. While attending OSU, he got a job working for Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) in the summers in various locations and eventually on the OSU campus. Once he graduated, he accepted a full-time position with ODOT where he worked for over 34 years before retiring. He took an eight-year break from ODOT and worked in a consulting firm in Madill, Oklahoma as an Engineer and surveyor. After retiring, Jerry worked for over five years as a part-time adjunct safety trainer for Red River Technology Center.
In his early years he loved motorcycles, playing tennis, racquetball, and guitar. Later in life he started playing golf and got his younger children to share his new passion and picked his guitar back up and would play for hours. Jerry loved his OSU Cowboys and enjoyed watching them play football, basketball, but most of all wrestling. Jerry volunteered at his church, West Side Christian Church, to prepare the Sunday service PowerPoint slides, run the sound, and serve as Trustee for several years.
Jerry married his wife Dana on July 21, 1990, in Duncan, at Highland Park Baptist Church. They were married 34 years, 5 months, and 21 days. Jerry was very much a family man and loved spending time with them. One of his greatest pleasures later in life was the Harwell Kids Family Get Togethers as he called them. He enjoyed going to his high school class reunions, Lizard reunions (his college intermural football team), and the Old Geezers monthly luncheons at Smokin Joes Rib Ranch in Davis, OK where all Holdenville High School Alumni gather.
