James Lindell Selby was born January 12, 1937 in Wetumka, OK to James and Elva Selby. He was promoted to Heaven at the age of 85 on April 28, 2022. He married the love of his life, Gayle Selby, on November 19, 1983. Jim attended school in Latta and Ada, OK. He moved to Duncan in 1978 and was employed by Tretolite Chemical Company where he retired in 1992. In retirement, Jim enjoyed spending time with Gayle and his family, fishing, and golfing. He was fondly called Gramps, Mimmim, and Daddy Jim by those that loved him.
Jim is survived by his wife, Gayle Selby, of the home; son, Brent Selby of Lawton; daughter, Debbie Smith and husband Sam of OKC; son, Scott Selby and wife Stacey of Yukon; and daughter, Michelle Lewis and husband Roger of Duncan. He is also survived by grandchildren: Chad Smith, Ashlee Clemons and husband Nate, Jay Smith, Brittnee VanHorn and husband Michael, Spencer Selby, Sydney Selby, Seth Selby, Justin Anderson, Haylee Robinson and husband Warren, Kinzie Kennedy, Whitney Broussard and husband Jamie, Trevor Anderson, Albany Anderson; 16 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Sandy and Hazel Stewart; step-son, Steve Anderson, and step-son, Tony Anderson.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, May 1, from 5:30-7:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home, Duncan.
A Celebration of Life will be on Monday, May 2, at 2:00 P.M. at New Hope Baptist Church in Duncan, OK with Pastor Randy Southerland officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Spencer Selby, Seth Selby, Chad Smith, Jay Smith, Roger Lewis, Bob Bruner, and Dave Bishop. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.
