Jimmie Dean McLain was born September 10, 1941, in Vandalia, Illinois to Burl Elton and Kathryn Marie (Steinhauer) McLain. He passed away on September 2, 2020, at his home near Marlow at the age of 78.
A celebration of Jim’s life with family and friends will be held when the weather cools off and the leaves turn, which was his favorite time of the year. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center of Duncan.
Jim graduated Duncan High School in 1960. He rodeo’ed riding bulls and bareback horses early as an adult and pursued many fields of interest from ranching to working as a sheet metal worker and welder throughout his life. He loved hunting, fishing, trapping and anything outdoors. He always had good hunting dogs and loved raising livestock and any kind of yardbird. The deer around his place would come out of the woods at his whistle. He loved visiting with anyone and everyone and never met a stranger. He loved a good cup of coffee and looked forward to stopping daily at Eastland Corner to visit the girls there and get a hot cup of coffee. His 4 granddaughters were his pride and joy and he loved bragging on them.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Danny Ray McLain.
Jim is survived by his sons: Jim D. McLain, Jr. (Lesli) of Marlow, Joshua Ryan McLain (Sumer) of Velma; grandchildren: Tiffany Nicole Jackson, Avery McLain, Rylee McLain, Sterling McLain; great grandchildren: Jacobe Wright, Kynlea Wright, Casen Jackson, Tenley Jackson; brother, Mike McLain (Diane) of Duncan; sister, Rosemary Mogen of Cody, Wyoming; nieces and nephews: Sean May, Dawn May, Holly May, Bryan May, Kristin Ingram, Megan Walker; aunt, Nadine McLain; numerous great nieces and nephews; and many friends.
