Was born December 25, 1925 to Joe L. and Ethel ) Howard Jenkins, Sr. on Buda, Texas. He passed away April 10th in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 85.

After Joe was born, he and his family moved to Austin, TX where he attended school. In his younger years, Joe delivered papers for the Austin Tribune. After graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served his country from 1944 to 1946.

After leaving the Navy, Joe went back to school and became an electrician. He was a member of the Local Union 520, IBEW in Austin, TX. In 1954, he bought a farm near Uhland, TX and after two years of drought, decided farming was not for him. He married Mary B. Stafford April 27, 1957 in Austin, TX. They built a home on the farm near Uhland.

In 1989 after he retired, they built a vacation home in Apache, OK and in 1996 sold the farm and moved to Apache where they have lived since that time. He worked on missile sites in Southwest Oklahoma for an electrical company under government contract.

Joe kept busy with humanitarian projects in the Apache area. He would spend his days collecting aluminum cans that he crushed and sold. He donated all the money to the Apache Fire Department, Police Department and Ambulance. He was recognized as Apache's Citizen of the Year in 1999 by the Apache Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture for all the hard work he did for Apache. Over the past 20 years he has collected several thousand dollars for the town's emergency services. Most everyone around town knew him as Uncle Joe because of all the nieces and nephews that live in Apache.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.

A graveside service will be held, Tuesday, April 12th at 2:00 P.M. in the Fairview Cemetery with Roy Young officiating and Les Claborn assisting. Burial with military honors will follow under the direction of Crews Funeral Home.
