John Cunningham Obituary

Mickey Cunningham, of from Apache Oklahoma was born on October the 8th of 1947, at the family home near Porter Hill, Oklahoma to JB and Vera Cunningham. He left us at the age of 74 on May 9, 2022 at home.

Mickey’s viewing will be at Crews Funeral Home in Apache Oklahoma on Thursday, May 12, from 9am to 7pm. His graveside service will be at Fairview Cemetery on May 13 at 10am where he will lay to rest next to his wife eternally. A celebration of life will be held on May 14 at the Medicine Park Music Hall starting at Noon.

Mickey served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1969 at first as a truck driver then a medic. He served in Germany, Virginia, and Oklahoma before retiring medically.

Mickey married his wife, Patricia Ann Cunningham, on September 12, 1968 and they had two children Bill and Paul. Sadly, Mickey’s wife passed away December 8, 2006.

Mickey was well loved and respected. He worked as a Maintenance Man and Salesman over the years. He had a strong charisma and a commanding presence in all of his endeavors. Whenever he did anything, he strived to do it well. He was a Mason and a Shriner. He was a horseman who took in horses that most people wouldn't. He cared for his horses, dogs, and animals as if they were his children. He loved cowboy movies, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Charley Pride, Roy Clark, The Oklahoma Sooners, and tolerated Elvis because his wife loved him. He took his family camping at the lake nearly every weekend while the boys were young. He said that Mount Scott cast its shadow on God's country and God’s country is where he wanted to be.

Mickey was particularly fond of his nephew, Jason Cunningham of Elgin, and his God children, Brandi Christianson of Chickasha, Ryshell Schrader of Colorado, and Ron Hardzog of Sapulpa.

Mickey was a people’s person if there ever was one. His laughter was unique and wonderful. People felt peace and comfort in his presence.

Survivors include his sons: Paul Cunningham of Cogar, Bill and Jowana Cunningham of Altus; grandsons: Paul Micheal Cunningham, Craig Cunningham, Blake Cunningham, Colin Cunningham, Derrick Cunningham, Ryan Cunningham; granddaughter, Malika Nix; great granddaughters: Penny Lynn Cunningham and Lorlie Fogle; sisters: Annette Rhodes, Mary Guzman, Patricia Shafer, Jeanie Nix, Millie Cunningham; brother, Tim Cunningham; and many nieces and nephews.

Mickey was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Cunningham; parents, JB and Vera Cunningham; and brothers: Buddy, Greg, David, and Dennis Paul.
