John Moody Obituary

John Henry Moody passed away in Duncan, Oklahoma on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at the age of 94.

John was born in Marlow, Oklahoma on July 14, 1929, to Forrest and Myrtle Moody. He married Effie Aline Benton on September 22, 1953 in Wellington, Texas. They moved to Flower Mound, Texas where they raised two daughters, Janey and JoEtta before finally settling in Duncan, OK. John loved Country & Western music; he played guitar, sang, and had begun to learn to fiddle. He even recorded an album at Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee. He loved going to "Jams" and was a regular at the senior dances. John also enjoyed traveling. He and Effie especially enjoyed wintering in south Texas with their many RV-ing friends "in the Valley."

John had a long career, first with Halliburton and later moving to Otis Engineering where he progressed from machinist into an engineering role. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years and was also a member of Eastern Star. He attended New Hope Baptist Church West where he easily formed many lasting friendships. Most of all, John loved his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a dear friend to many. He will be dearly missed.

He is predeceased by Effie, his wife of 70 years, his parents Forrest and Myrtle Moody, as well as his two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his daughters Janey Outlan and her husband Booth of Hartsburg, Missouri and JoEtta Matos and her husband Brian of Bloomington, Indiana. He has three grandchildren; Tyler Matos and wife Nathalie Forney, Karsen Matos, and Ryley Matos and one great-grandchild, Tyler and Nathalie's son Cooper Matos.

Family visitation is scheduled for Friday, April 26, at Whitt Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
An additional visitation period will begin at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 27. The Funeral service will begin at 11:00 A.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Randy Southerland officiating; interment will follow in the Marlow Cemetery.
