Johnny Ray Gill Obituary
Johnny Ray Gill, of Duncan, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Duncan Regional Hospital after a short illness. Johnny was born December 13, 1954, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma to Laverne (Butch) Gill and Glenda Ruth Mays Gill.
He grew up in Duncan, OK and was a Mark Twain Elementary Roughrider. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1973 - "We're the Greatest! Proud are We! Sr. Class of '73!" After graduation, Johnny attended OU where he received a BA in Journalism and History. He entered the military and served in the US Army as Brigade Chaplain from November 20, 1974 to November 19, 1977.
Johnny was our class Historian and photographer. He possessed a complete pictorial history from grade school until our 50th reunion. He was also an avid prankster! We have an endless collection of hilarious memories of Johnny and his antics. He was a sweet and kind man.
After returning to Duncan in 2021, he settled in his perfect little house, built in 1930. He said "it's a perfect, eccentric old house, for an aging eccentric like me!"
Preceded in death by his parents and some precious friends, Johnny leaves behind a host of lifelong friends.
A memorial service is planned for 1:00 P.M., Saturday, March 22, at the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for his aftercare.
