Judith Ann Newman Obituary

A beloved Mother, Judith (Judy) Ann Newman, passed away peacefully at home on December 8, 2025. A long-time resident of Duncan, Judy spent the last several years of her life in Oklahoma City and Edmond, where she grew up as a child. Judy was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma on September 10, 1939, the only child of Clinton Ellis and Helen Mardel (Croft) Carper.

Judy graduated from NW Classen High School with the class of 1957. She remembered her high school years fondly and kept in touch with several from her class. She attended the University of Oklahoma where she was a Yearbook Beauty and a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She married Jerry Don Newman on April 1, 1967 and moved to Duncan where she remained until his death in 2011.

Being a mother was Judy's lifeblood. She was happiest when she was with her children and grandchildren. Judy was both head cheerleader and coach to her children and grandchildren, always eager to share their dreams and accomplishments. To know her was to know her children and grandchildren.

Judy's faith was strong throughout her life. She was a devout member of First Baptist Church in Duncan and enjoyed singing in the choir. She was proud to serve as a leader of the Singles Class in the 1970s which offered one of the first Sunday school classes of the time designed to minister to single adults.

As a member of the Traditional Study Club, Judy was often asked by study club members to share her book review of the Two From Galilee, a novel by Marjorie Holmes that focused on the love story of Joseph and Mary. Besides loving to read, Judy wrote poetry and loved working in her flower gardens. She had a magnificent green thumb. She wore the latest fashions and loved bright jewelry that reflected her personality and passion for life.

Judy was a people person who "knew everybody" and never met a stranger. She flourished during the 20 years that she worked at Crystal Pools where she took care of customers, ran chemical analyses, did the books, and generally managed the business.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Judy is survived by her children: Jeff Henderson (wife Susan), Greg Henderson (husband Joseph), and Jennifer Labus (husband Mike) and her grandchildren: Emma Henderson, Hannah Labus, and Greyson Labus.

Viewing will be Monday, December 15, from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm at Whitt Funeral Home in Duncan, Oklahoma. Funeral services are planned for Tuesday, December 16, at 2 pm at the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bryan Pain officiating. Interment will follow in the Duncan Municipal Cemetery. The men in Judy's family, sons Jeff and Greg, sons-in-law Joseph and Mike, and grandson Greyson, have the honor to serve as her pallbearers.
