Karla "Kay" Strickland, 73, of Duncan, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 5, 1952, in Comanche, Oklahoma, to Mike and Josephine (Fletcher) Hensley.
Kay grew up in Comanche and graduated from Comanche High School, where she formed friendships and memories that stayed with her throughout her life. She later married the love of her life, John Lewis Strickland, and together they built a life centered on family, community, and sports. As a coach's wife, Kay was nothing short of extraordinary. She filmed countless games, kept the wrestling team's scorebook with precision, and was always ready to support athletes and cheerleaders alike. Many young people remember her as the cheerful, dependable presence who transported them to events and encouraged them every step of the way.
In addition to her dedication to school athletics, Karla discovered a passion for golf. She became an accomplished player, and she and John proudly placed in the top four in numerous tournaments-a shared hobby that brought them joy, laughter, and friendly competition.
Above all, Kay was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was the center of her world, and she poured her heart into every moment spent with them.
Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jimmy Hensley, Kay is survived by her husband of 41 years, John Strickland; children: Alisa Strickland, Michael McBee and wife Stacy; grandchildren: Kelly McBee, Auston McBee, Evelyn Besen, Miles Besen, Brett Coulston, Dakota Wilkerson, Felicia Norberto; great-grandchildren: Mezy, Tayzlee, Ashton, Hugo; and brothers: Don Leech, Jerry Hensley, and Billy Hensley.
A memorial service is planned for 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 10, 2026, in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Kevin McKinley officiating.
