Kenneth Robert "Kenny" Whitten passed away on Friday, February 23rd, at his home in Duncan at the age of 58. He was born on January 4, 1960, in Vallejo, California, to Bobby Jo and Delores Gladys (Walden) Whitten.
A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, February 28, at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Marlow with Dr. Joe Ligon officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Kenny graduated from Santa Rosa High School where he played soccer. He was employed by the City of Duncan as an underground lineman for 25 years before he retired in 2005. He was a founding member of the Empire Fire Department, serving a total of 25 years. He retired after serving as the Fire Chief for 8 years. He served a 4-year term on the Empire School Board as President.
He enjoyed going hunting and fishing, was a story teller extraordinaire, and loved to play practical jokes on his family and friends. He was a baseball and softball umpire. Kenny loved operating heavy machinery and moving dirt.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Jo Whitten; brother, Scott Whitten; and grandparents, Merwin and Gladys Walden.
Kenny is survived by his mother, Delores and her husband John Brennan; children, Jeremiah and wife Kara Whitten, Tiffany and husband Curtis Shook, Rhiannon Whitten, Devin and husband Corey Jackson, and Blake Thompson; 10 grandchildren, Logan and Karamya Whitten, Aubrey, Sydney, Brody, and Grady Shook, Brayden McKenzie, Baylenn, Bryer, and Bristol Jackson; brothers, Keith and wife Maree Whitten, Shawn Whitten, and Dwayne Whitten; longtime friend and father-figure, Jay Hampton; and his red blue heeler dog, "Budro". He also leaves behind a host of other family and friends.
