Larry Earl Whitney died unexpectedly on July 1, 2020, at the age of 69 in Duncan, Oklahoma.
Larry was born on July 3, 1950, to Earl Winfred and Mary Wanda (Garrett) Whitney in Duncan, Oklahoma. Larry grew up and attended school in Meridian and Comanche, Oklahoma before graduating from Duncan High School in 1967. He later attended and graduated from Cameron University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree with a minor in Accounting while also obtaining his pilot’s license. After graduation, Larry began his career working for Schlumberger as a field engineer for 8 years and continued a long and successful career in the oil and gas industry ending as a 24-year employee of Weatherford, where he was a top salesman many times, before retiring to his beloved farm. Larry was a member of Society of Petroleum Engineers for many years.
Larry always looked forward to his annual golf trips to San Diego with his son, Heath, and grandson, Jackson. In his younger years, he was an avid racquetball player and snow skier. He later enjoyed hunting, fishing, and supporting his grandchildren in all of their sports and activities. Larry’s love of fast cars began in high school when he had a GTO and continued the rest of his life as he owned and enjoyed many Corvettes. Larry was very proud of his land he had purchased in the last few years and the work he put in on the farm made him truly happy. Larry was a staunch Republican and was very proud of his country.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Earl, and his mother, Wanda. He is survived by his two children: Heath Whitney and his wife Cindy of Duncan; Heather McCormick and her husband Chris of Norman; his 5 wonderful grandchildren: Jackson, Halle, Afton, Morgan and Tiffani; his brothers: Phil, Vic, Danny, all of Duncan; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, at 11:00 A.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel in Duncan, Oklahoma, with Rev. Kathy Gibson officiating. Interment will follow at the Duncan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris McCormick, Jackson McCormick, Dude Sanford, Tyler Yarborough, Tommy Howell, and his brother, Vic Whitney. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry’s other brothers: Phil Whitney and Danny Whitney.
