Leon Montgomery "Mont" Lakey was born on January 4, 1960, in Mansfield, Missouri to Leon and Colleen (Degase) Lakey. He went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at the age of 65.
A funeral service is planned for 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 16, at Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tom Lemke officiating. Interment will follow in the Marlow Cemetery with Zachary Sampson, Elmer Thompson, Chris Dilbeck, Haydon Lakey, Erwin Johnson, and Ronald McFarlin serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Curtis Smelley and Burr Taber.
Mont spent 45 years behind the wheel as a truck driver and truly loved the open road. When he wasn't driving, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He was known for his delicious BBQ on the smoker, and he loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed sitting around the table playing cards or board games and filling the room with laughter. Always a jokester, he never met a stranger and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. Above all, he loved God and found great joy in attending church and living out his faith.
Preceded in death by his father and daughter, Staci Sampson, Mont is survived by his mother, Colleen; wife, Sallie Jo Lakey; children: Zachary Lakey, Haydon Lakey, Tayce Lakey (Erwin Johnson), Zachary Sampson (Novina) and Ashleigh Sampson; and grandchildren: Yacer Johnson, Reilley Lakey, Raydon Lakey, Mariah Sampson, TJ Tsatoke, Ellianna Tsatoke, and Mia Sampson. Other survivors include his brother, Mitch Lakey, and sisters: April McFarlin (Ronald) and Amy Porter (Doy).
