Linda (Harris) Chancellor, originally of Duncan, Oklahoma, left this life to be with the Lord on Friday, July 31, 2020, at home in Decatur, Texas, with her husband and son (“her boys”) at her side.
She was born September 5, 1950, to Ora Mae and F.N. Harris in Duncan. She was a 1968 graduate of Duncan High School and was later a graduate of Oklahoma College for Liberal Arts, now USAO. It is there where she met the love of her life, Tommy Leon Chancellor, originally from Chickasha. They were united in marriage on December 18, 1970, in the chapel on the OCLA campus. On February 8, 1974, Linda gave birth to her sweet boy and their only child, Tommy Neal.
Ms. Linda, as she was affectionately called, loved her family fiercely. She adored her grandsons and was very active in their lives. She had a sharp wit and a generous heart. Her sweet and calming spirit endeared her to all and she enjoyed many precious friendships throughout her life. She found joy in shopping, traveling, gardening, crafting and sewing. She was also involved in the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Women’s Club of Decatur.
Her skills and adaptability were apparent in her varied work experiences including the District Attorney Office of Grady County, AWP Operating of San Antonio, Kingwood ISD, CP&L in Corpus Christi and for TC Casing in Decatur.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Ora Mae (Treadwell) and F.N. Harris, and her mother-in-law, Ellen Fay Chancellor. Survivors include husband and partner in life of 50 years, Tommy; her son, Tommy Neal and his wife Dana; her grandsons, Layton Joseph Chancellor and Aaron Neal Chancellor; her sisters: Elaine Vaught and husband Jim; Janet Orum and her husband Gary; and her sisters-in-law, Cheryl Wenninger and husband Joe; Terri Jernigan and husband David; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Linda Ruth Harris Chancellor always carried herself with grace and dignity which was even more apparent throughout her courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of the countless friends and family who were blessed to share this life with her.
Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 8, in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel prior to funeral services beginning at 2:00 P.M. with Roger Rowinsky and Jimmy Smith officiating.
