Linda Newsome Obituary
Linda Nell Newsome, of Duncan, Oklahoma, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the age of 88.
Linda was born September 2, 1937, in Electra, Texas, to Murray Mack and Glenn (Givens) Metcalf. After graduating from high school, she worked as a secretary and later devoted her time to caring for others as a caregiver.
Throughout her life, Linda called many places home, living in Texas, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and the country of Iran. She especially loved the mountains and found great joy in the simple pleasure of sitting on the porch and enjoying the world around her.
Linda's faith was at the heart of her life. While living in Wyoming, she shared her love of music by playing the piano at her church. After making her home in Duncan, she became a member of Bethel Church. Linda also had a well-known love for Dr Pepper-but as those who knew her could tell you, she loved Jesus even more. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 91, which reminds us that "He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge".
Above all, Linda treasured her family. Spending time with those she loved brought her great happiness, and she especially cherished the time she shared with her two grandsons.
Linda is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirin McDonald and husband Shawn; grandson, Dr. Zachary McDonald of Bozeman, Montana; sister-in-law, Ann Metcalf of Belmont, North Carolina; as well as her extended family, cousins, and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Murray Mack and Glenn Metcalf; brother, Mark Metcalf; sister, Claudia Metcalf; and grandson, Noah McDonald.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center.
