Linda Provence Obituary

Our sweet precious Marney, otherwise known as Linda Jane (Dunn) Provence, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 16, 2022 at the age of 85. She has left behind a legacy of serving others through her church, school, and community.

Linda Dunn was born in Shawnee, OK on August 3, 1936 to Wayne and Ruby Dunn. She graduated from NW Classen High in Oklahoma City in 1954. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University and later Oklahoma State University where she met George Provence at the OK State Square Dance Club where they performed exhibitions for a number of audiences with the club. George and Linda were married on January 25, 1957 at Trinity Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. She finished her degree in home economics at OSU, graduating in May, 1958.

Her love for art, sketching, drawing, and creating fashions opened several opportunities to use these skills in service to others. As a young Agricultural Education teacher’s wife, she made many decorations for FFA banquets. As an Extension Educator’s wife, she taught sewing skills to a number of 4-Hers including her two daughters.

At Central High, she spent many years as the Kindergarten aide helping to shape young lives. She also spent several hours listening to young Awana students recite their Bible verses. She treasured the ladies in her Sunday School Class at Central Baptist Church, the LOLs. She definitely had a servant’s heart.

George and Linda were blessed with two daughters, Susan and Kristy. Linda is preceded in death by her parents and her husband George. She is survived by her children, Susan Routh and her husband Brian of Tuttle, OK and Kristy Huffman and her husband Darin of Central High. Her greatest joy were her grandchildren: Kayla Huffman and Will Brock, Tulsa; Dylan Routh and fiancé Celeste Jameson, Tuttle; Keena (Huffman) Hall and husband Jackson, Fountain, CO; Rebekah (Routh) Hannan and husband Ryan, Stillwater; Karissa Huffman and fiancé Collin Thornton, Stillwater; and many nieces, nephews and loving friends.

The funeral service will be Thursday, May 19, at 2:00 pm at Central Baptist Church. Pastor Sam Buzzard will be officiating the service. Randy Southerland and Billy Morgan will be sharing music, as well as Brian Routh, Roberta Hinkle, and Wayne Paxton. The pallbearers will be nephew Don Davis, Gene Arwood, David Nease, Paul Dutton, Larry Russell, and Belford Brashears. Honorary pallbearers will be Kendall Brashears, Michael Brashears, Bart Brashears, Lloyd Ely, Vic Whitney, and Benny Johnson. Interment will be in Ringling (OK) Cemetery under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Meridian Nursing Home-Comanche and Kindful Hospice-Marlow. Donations in Linda’s memory may be made to the Baptist Home for Girls at 13976 Anthony Lane, Madill, OK 73446. Online giving may be made at obhc.org.
