Lloyd Wiggins Obituary
Lloyd Danny Wiggins was born May 15, 1948 in a small dirt floor home in Sugden, Oklahoma to LD Wiggins and Anna Elizabeth Boyd Wiggins.
He attended school in Sugden and Ryan in his early years ultimately graduating from Duncan High School in 1966.
A short time later he made a decision which would change the course of the rest of his life. He enlisted in the US Army. This led to his deployment to Vietnam. Upon completion of his service in Vietnam, he was stationed at Ft. Sill, Ok for the remainder of his enlistment. It was there that enabled him to meet a young lady, Judy Kunze who, only a few short months later, would become his wife. A marriage that lasted fifty-five years at his death.
This marriage would produce two sons, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
He worked as an auto body repairman, manager for TG&Y, a welder, machinist, and a security guard until the day he found the calling he was destined for. He became a Police Officer for the City of Duncan, Oklahoma. He remained there, working mostly the midnight shift and many years as the Lake Patrol Officer, until his retirement. He also spent many years with the Stephens County Sheriff's Office as the Drug Court Officer. A dedicated Officer who loved his job.
He then shifted his focus to serving other veterans. A member of AMVETS, The American Legion and the DAV. He would serve in many positions and would go on to become the Post Commander for Duncan's AMVETS Post 11. He enjoyed running bingo at AMVETS for years. He was an Accredited State Service Officer with AMVETS which he did for many years. He served other veterans until the effects of his Agent Orange exposure and injuries from service took such a toll on his health that it was no longer possible to continue.
Of all the things of this world that he was the most proud of it was his family. He was very proud of his two sons who followed in his footsteps. The joy of his life was his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Above all of this, he knew Jesus Christ as his Savior and is now with him in Heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents LD and Anna Wiggins, his brother Michael Don Wiggins, and many other close family members.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years Judy Wiggins of Duncan, OK. His sister Dianna Thompson and husband Buddy of Eldorado, OK. His sons Danny Wiggins (USMC and Wichita Falls PD) and wife Joeann of Wichita Falls, TX and David Wiggins (Lawton PD) and wife Angela of Duncan, OK. Six grandchildren, Michael Wiggins (US Navy) of Wichita Falls, TX, Brandon Wiggins (US Army) and wife Shamiqua of Ft. Bliss, TX, Travis Wiggins (US Army) and wife Claudia of San Giovanni in Persecito, Italy, Hunter Wiggins (Duncan PD) of Duncan, OK, Matthew Wiggins of Wichita Falls, TX, and Kady Wiggins of Stillwater, OK. Two great grandchildren Benjamin and MaLeah Wiggins of Ft. Bliss, TX.
A dedicated man who loved his family and serving others. His impact in this life can only be measured by the lives he influenced during his years on this earth. He will be sorely missed by an innumerable amount of people. A life well lived in service.
Lloyd spent his final six years at Wilkins Nursing Home in Duncan. He received excellent care and was loved by the staff.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 3, at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services are planned for Thursday, December 4, at 2:00 PM in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Leonard Keele, Chisholm Trail Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Michael, Brandon, Travis, Hunter and Matthew (his sons Danny and David will stand in for Brandon and Travis who are away with the US Army) and Chris Renyer.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Duncan Police Dept past and present, members of AMVETS, and his friend Jackie Ingram.
