Lyndel Ira Duane Strain was born May 26, 1933 to Ira Byington and Reta Hampton (Reeder) Strain in Wichita Falls, Texas. He passed away on January 7, 2021 at his home near Duncan at the age of 87.
Viewing will be available from Saturday-Monday (January 9-11) from 1:00-7:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. The family requests that masks be worn. There are no funeral services scheduled at this time due to COVID-19. The family will have a Celebration of Life later in 2021. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Lyndel graduated from Bray High School. He married Dorothy Lee Ohl on August 30, 1975 in Dr. Ellis’s backyard. She preceded him in death on April 21, 2009.
He spent his life farming and ranching east of Duncan. He received several awards from different boards including Master Agronomist from the OSU. He served on the Soil Conservation (NRCS) Board. He won a National Alfalfa Hay award, along with many other awards in Stephens County. He served on the Stephens County Rural Water Board District #5 for 29 years. He was named Outstanding Young Farmer by Farm Bureau. Lyndel served on the Stephens County Fair Board, OK Thoroughbred Association, OK Farm Bureau, Stephens County Alfalfa Hay Board, and Stephens County Livestock Producers Board. He also was a sponsor for the awards for the Stephens County Livestock Show. He also supported the Bray-Doyle FFA program. In addition to farming and ranching, he also owned Strain Feed & Grain in Duncan.
Lyndel spent every day of his life trying to make someone laugh. He was a jokester. Above everything else, Lyndel was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; and his parents. Survivors include his children: Jenny Lynn and husband David Jamin of Duncan; Michael Todd and wife Kay Lyn Strain of Claremore; Andrew Mark and wife Staci LaDawn Strain of N. Augusta, SC; and Ricky Payne Strain of Ada; grandchildren: Nikki Bunn Jones of Norman; Bill Bunn III of Duncan; Kendall Strain of Claremore; Jared Strain of Tulsa; and Rick Strain II of Duncan; great grandchildren: Lauren McDaniel of Dallas, TX; Laney McDaniel of Norman; Bill Bunn IV of Duncan; and Wyatt Payne of Duncan; sister, Delores Ann and husband Donald Spivey of Marlow; and nephews and niece: Donald Kent Spivey, LaDawna Ann Spivey Baker, and Ira Keith Spivey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Cancer Center of Duncan.
