Marcell Gigger Obituary

Mr. Marcell Gigger, of Duncan, Oklahoma, was born on September 27, 1936 to Mrs. Katie Wyatt Gigger and Mr. Ernest Gigger in Elmore City, Oklahoma. He passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the age of 88.

Viewing will be on Tuesday, December 17, between 8:00A.M. and 7:00P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, December 18, at 10:00A.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Tony Dean officiating. Interment will be in the Little Flock Cemetery near Elmore City under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home. Serving as flower bearers are Nancy Carr and Lakeyia Vinson. Pallbearers are Cornell Dean, Charles Calvin, and Chris Fox. Honorary pallbearer is Bennie Bibbs.

Marcell attended elementary schools and graduated from Douglas High School in Duncan. After graduation from high school, he attended Langston University and received a Bachelor of Science and then Southwestern State University where he received a Master's degree in Biology and Chemistry. He was employed by Halliburton Oil Well and Cementing Company. After his retirement from Halliburton, he began a career with Duncan Public Schools as a teacher and coach at Duncan High School.

He served as a trustee for ASCOG and on several other community boards after his retirement. He also served as chairman of the Douglas Alumni organizations and Silver Haired Legislators. He remained an active member of the community serving as Deacon at the Saint Stephens Baptist Church for 25 years. Marcell was a member of the Prince Hall Masons and was active in the Duncan chapter prior to its closing.

Marcell joined the US Army and served his country during the Vietnam war. He was honorably discharged. He was a proud veteran.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Katie Gigger; father, Ernest Gigger; and brother, Pat Ray Gigger. He leaves to cherish his memory: brother, Nathaniel Gigger (Diane); a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends.
