Martha Gay Woods, 80, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, February 8, 2026, in Duncan, Oklahoma. She was born July 1, 1945, in Winnsboro, Texas, to Charlie Jones Sr. and Mellisie (Chamblee) Jones.
Martha had five brothers and one sister, and she relished every opportunity to challenge her brothers. One of her favorite stories-retold often and with great pride-was the day she wagered them she could cook a full dinner of chicken-fried chicken faster than they could eat it. After an hour, the boys surrendered, and Martha enjoyed the sweet victory of watching them complete her weekly chores.
She graduated from high school in Scranton, Arkansas, and carried her strong work ethic and spirited nature throughout her life. On January 7, 1964, she married the love of her life, Huey Paul Woods. Together they raised three children and built a warm, steady, and loving home. Their marriage was a source of strength and joy for more than six decades, lasting until Huey's passing last year.
Martha was gifted with her hands and her heart-she loved to cook, sew, and lose herself in a good western novel, especially if it was written by her favorite author, Louis L'Amour, and she never turned down the chance to watch a John Wayne movie.
Above all, Martha cherished her family. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she spent countless hours volunteering in their school classrooms, cheering them on, and creating memories they will carry forever. Her presence-steady, warm, and full of humor-was a constant source of comfort and love.
Martha is survived by her children: Mellisa Woods of Sanger, Texas, Steven Woods (Melinda) of Duncan, Prentiss "Lee" Woods (Tracy) of Waurika; grandchildren: Daniel, Jen, Luke, Kaylee, Braden; great-grandchildren: Evie, Jake, Emmy; brother, Ronnie Jones (Mellisa); and sister, Mary Burkhart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Huey Paul Woods; parents, Charlie and Mellisie; and brothers: Roger Jones, Rusty Jones, and Charles Lee Jones.
A graveside memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 10:00 A.M., at Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center.
