Mary "Jane" Bills Obituary

Mary "Jane" Bills beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025, at the age of 89. Jane was born at the Gunn family homestead in Corum, Oklahoma on July 11, 1936. She was youngest of five children born to George Robert and Ada Ruth (Callaway) Gunn. Jane grew up in a loving family where her warmth, kindness, and musical talent were evident from an early age. At five years old, the harvest hands would pay her a nickel to play "Pistol Packin' Mama" on the piano while they enjoyed their lunch! She sang and accompanied countless vocal groups, school assemblies and programs, church services and school reunions throughout her life.

In 1954, Jane graduated from Empire High School and continued her education at Draughon's Business College in Wichita Falls, Texas. On May 11, 1955, she married the love of her life, Thomas LaWayne Bills, beginning a marriage that was a true partnership filled with devotion and joy.

Jane worked for many years as a dedicated legal secretary, admired for her professionalism and attention to detail. She was a faithful member of Fair Baptist Church and lived her life guided by her faith and commitment to Jesus, her Savior. She found joy in simple pleasures-tending her yard, playing the piano, reading, and most of all, spending time with her family. Her home was always filled with music, laughter, and love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Robert and Ada Ruth Gunn; husband, Thomas LaWayne Bills; son-in-law, Mark Owens; siblings: Robert M. Gunn, Ellen Ingersoll and husband Ralph, Billie Hasty and husband Leon; sister-in-law, Ava Nell Gunn; and nephews: Bobby Gunn, Billy Carl Gunn, Thomas Hasty, Douglas Gunn, and Michael Gunn.

Survivors include her daughters: Sherry Lynn Brock of Duncan and Nancy Owens of Del City; grandchildren: Brian Thomas Wade and wife Dr. Jill Harnesberger Wade of Ijamsville, MD, Beverly Beth Duvall of Hartshorne, OK, Laura Nicole McClain of Del City, Joel Evan McClain, of Midwest City; great-grandchildren: Emma Katherine Wade of Ijamsville, MD, Gracelyn Belle Duvall of Hartshorne, OK, Adalyn Leigh Duvall of Hartshorne, OK; brother, George Richard Gunn of Duncan; and nieces: Sherri Jackson and Shannon Minter both of Duncan; and extended Bridgers, Callaway, Johnson, Chasteen, Shorter, and Shults families. She loved you all dearly and eternally. You made her life happy and special. Special love goes to Jane's longest and dearest friend of over 80 years, Jo Ann Arrington of Duncan.

A private service is being handled by Whitt Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are Brian Wade, Darrell Brackin, Joel McClain, Mike Shorter, and Mark Pitcock.
