Matt E. Foster was born April 18, 1930 in Velma, Oklahoma to James "Albert" and Janie Paralee (Mitchell) Foster. He completed his earthly journey on Friday, March 6, 2026, with his family at his side. He was 95.
Visitation will be Monday, March 9, 5:00-7:00 PM at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services are planned for Tuesday, March 10, at 10:00 AM in the chapel at Whitt Funeral Home with Clifford Dunham, pastor of Connection Church Clear Creek, officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Jake Foster, Mason Copeland, Howard Nighswonger, Ernest Tonkinson, Chris Keck, and William Justus. Honorary pallbearers are F.L. Estes, Lanny Landram and Jim Ray Foster. Interment will follow in the Marlow Cemetery.
Matt married the love of his life, Rowena Faye Howard, on December 8, 1951. Their family was completed with the birth of their son, Mickey.
A true musician, Matt played several instruments, including the mandolin, guitar and harmonica. He was a member of a bluegrass band, Beaver Creek Band, from the late 1970's until 2012. He later played at the Marlow Nutrition Center, church, and local nursing homes. He loved all sports especially baseball. At one time, he was the coach for Mickey's Little League baseball team. He enjoyed playing golf. Matt was a member of the Gatlin Baptist Church where, in 1957, he was elected to serve as a deacon. Later he continued in that service at Lakeside Baptist Church, now Connection Church Clear Creek. He taught Sunday School classes and participated in the music programs.
He was employed at Halliburton as a machinist and foreman. He retired from Halliburton in 1987 with 34 years of service. He then went to work for Vernon Rolling Machine Shop where he continued working for 12 more years. He fully retired at the age of 69.
Matt was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Janie Foster; wife of 69 years, Rowena; son, Mickey Dale; brothers: Jim Foster, Jake Foster, Joe Foster, Virgil Foster, Jack Foster, Frank Foster, Toby Foster; and sisters: Mary Jane Foster, Sudie Nix. He is survived by his extended nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
