Max Edwin Newsome was born September 28, 1936, in Mt. Vernon, Texas to Walter and Jewell (Howard) Newsome. He passed away in Duncan, Oklahoma on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at the age of 87.
Viewing will be available from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 11, at Whitt Funeral Home. There is no formal family visitation. A private graveside service is planned for September 12 under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.
Max graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. He worked for Halliburton as a field operator on an off shore oil rig in Iran. He eventually moved to Duncan and worked as Head of the Safety Department before retiring after 35 years of service. In his spare time, Max planted a garden each year and enjoyed watching westerns. He loved John Deere tractors and drove his in the yearly Marlow Fourth of July Parade.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Jewell Newsome, and grandson, Noah McDonald. Survivors include his daughter, Shirin McDonald and husband Shawn of Marlow, OK, and grandson, Dr. Zachary McDonald, of Tulsa, OK.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Elk Crossing for taking care of Max in his final days.
