Melvina Atholina Horner

Melvina Atholina (Goldston) Horner was born in Doyle, Oklahoma, to Alice (Miller) Goldston and John Henry Goldston. She attended school in Doyle and Marlow, Oklahoma, as well as Lovington, New Mexico. Most of her life was spent in the Doyle, Marlow, and Duncan areas, although in her later years she spent time in Denver, CO, Boise, ID and Grapevine, TX, to be near her daughters and grandchildren.
After marrying Willis (Son) Horner on August 2, 1947, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Melvina devoted her life to her family, community and her many careers. Over the years, she filled many roles-with deep dedication and creativity. She was a homemaker, beautician, and business owner, operating a beauty shop at her home in Marlow for 20 years. She later worked at the Oklahoma Employment Office, the Social Security Office, and the Department of Defense (DOD). At Fort Sill, she worked for TEXCOM as a Security and Safety Clerk and COMSEC Custodian. She was an active member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary and a member of Saint Paul's Methodist Church.
After retiring from DOD, Melvina began her most cherished career - that of a tour director, sales representative, and charter coordinator for LATCO Charters in Lawton, OK. Her trips went from one coast to the other traveling with many of her dearest friends.
Melvina loved to cook, read, sew, crochet, embroider, and travel. Above all, she cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought her the greatest joy of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 69 years, Willis (Son) Horner, on April 30, 2016. She was also preceded by her parents, John H. and Alice Goldston; two sisters, Emma Burton and Lorene Durham; two brothers, Boyd and John Goldston; 3 nieces, June Adams, Nelda Cooper and Mary Alice Li Vicchi, 4 nephews, John, Ronnie, Dickie and Charlie Goldston.
Survivors include:
Daughters: Donna Conner (Haslet, TX), Norma Horner and husband John Estes (Denver, CO), Patricia Loeffler and husband Paul Loeffler (Star, ID).
Grandchildren: Sean Conner and wife Daniella (Little Rock, AR), Stacy Hagman and husband Dr. Joseph Hagman (Westlake, TX), Christina Loeffler (Moore, OK), Nicole Loeffler (Richland, WA)
Great-grandchildren: Joseph, Gabriella, and Nicholas Hagman (Westlake, TX), Aidan Conner (Little Rock, AR), Santiago and Auriella Loeffler, (Moore, Ok.)
Services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, 2:00 p.m. at the Whitt Funeral Home, 4748 US-81, Duncan, OK 73533, followed immediately by graveside services at the Duncan Cemetery. (There will be no visitation prior to Services.)
Melvina will be remembered for her warmth, strength, and devotion to her family, as well as her unwavering faith. She touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of love.
