Mildred Burton Obituary

Mildred Lorene Burton was born August 7, 1920 in Olustee, Oklahoma to Robert and Lieu Emma (Baggett) Rayburn. She passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021, in Duncan at the age of 101.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, August 24, from 6:00-7:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. A graveside service is planned for Wednesday, August 25, at 10:00 A.M. at Marlow Cemetery with Bro. Mike McCord officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

Mildred attended schools in Warren and Duncan. In 1939 she married John Terrell Anderson. They had two children – Terry and Jana. He tragically passed away in 1953. On July 22, 1955, she married Grady Miller Burton. He passed in 2008.

She was a nurse and homemaker. She also worked as the bookkeeper at a lumber company. She was an excellent seamstress. She loved to cook, refinish furniture, and work in the yard. She made and collected porcelain dolls. She knitted adult hats and was making beanies for newborns at Southwestern Hospital in Lawton, for Charis Pregnancy Center, and to send on mission trips. Mildred listened to preachers including Jimmy Swaggart. Her favorite pastime was drinking coffee and eating honey buns. She was a longtime member of Ray of Hope Church. Mildred loved her family dearly.

Mildred is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Harry Nickell of Duncan; grandchildren: Leon Anderson, Lori Anderson, Larry Anderson, and Kim Nickell Allen; great grandchildren: Tanner and Hannah Nickell, Cody Brown, Grady McCullar, Nikki McCullar, Dustin McCullar, Amanda and Matthew Tillson, and Terry Don Anderson; numerous great great grandchildren; and special sister-in-law, Wanda Davis.

She was preceded in death by her husbands: John Terrell Anderson and Grady Miller Burton; son, Terry Anderson; grandson, Donnie Nickell; great grandson, David Anderson; great granddaughter, Ashley Anderson; brothers: Jack Rayburn, Julian Rayburn, Grady Rayburn, and R.C. Rayburn; sisters: Ivor Ray, Aline Crafton, Lucille Vestal, and Willie Davis.
