Nancy Glasscock Obituary

Nancy Smith Glasscock, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and the glue of her entire family, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 4th with her daughter by her side. Nancy was born on January 11, 1937, in Ryan, Oklahoma, and was the first child of Austin and Dolly Smith. She is now reunited with her parents; her aunt, Tennie Mundy; her husband, Ivan Glasscock; her brother, James Smith; her son, James Dale "Jimmy" Spruill; her children's father, Dale Spruill; and her precious dog Cal, who preceded her in death.

Nancy grew up in Terrell, Oklahoma and moved to Duncan, Oklahoma in 1956 where she married Dale and had her children, Kelly and Jimmy. She went to work as an executive assistant at Halliburton in the late 1950's and then went on to pursue her passion for southwestern art. She dealt in both paintings and bronzes, where she was able to represent and showcase many of her favorite artists at the Kellye Gallery. She was known for her ability to form deep connections with the artists and eventually brought galleries to Stamford, Abilene, and Houston, Texas. Nancy had artistic flair herself, and impeccable taste and style, which she brought to her fashion, her personal trademark eyeglasses, and her signature eyebrow raise which could say more than words ever could.

In 1985, she moved to Denton, Texas which is where she met and married Ivan Glasscock. They were happily married for 15 years until his death in 2008 and she remained in Denton for several years after that, enjoying all the close friends that she had made, including those in her Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Denton.

Family was everything to Nancy. She loved making a home comfortable so that everyone would want to come and visit, filled with smells of her cooking and baking. She loved gardening, named and fed her squirrels by hand, and fed the birds. She had a wonderful ability to laugh at herself and make you laugh at yourself, sometimes while you were crying. The Denton home she shared with Ivan with the decorated christmas trees and hand-tied bows was the stuff of magazines. At holidays, you could truly call her the "hostess with the mostest." Her proudest titles later in life, though, were Granny and GG. She showered all of her grands and her niece with unconditional love and somehow made each one feel like they were the most special to her. She knew how to listen. She knew how to comfort. She knew how to teach.

She guaranteed that her whole family knew one thing for sure: they were loved. Every last one of them. She gave them the biggest gift of all by consistently living her Christian faith. She did not just talk about it. It was how she approached her life. She was grateful that she had the time with loved ones that she did, and she expressed that. She allowed herself to be sustained by God when loss seemed overwhelming, showing them all how to do that in the best possible way. She was not fearful of her own death; she knew Jesus and all of her loved ones would be there to greet her in Heaven, where her family knows she is now.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Kelly Neeld, and son-in-law, Floyd Neeld, of Duncan, Oklahoma; granddaughter Jessika Knight and her husband, Blake, and great-grandsons Hawkins and Baker, of Norman, Oklahoma; grandson Austin Earhart and his wife, Jordyn, and great-grandchildren McKenzie, Westin, Harper, Aisley, and Jagger, of Shawnee, Oklahoma; Jessika and Austin’s father, Steve Earhart, of Shawnee, Oklahoma; granddaughter Amber Reid and her husband, Daniel, and great-grandchildren Caide, Blaine, and Graicie, and great-great-grandson Hudson, of Duncan, Oklahoma; granddaughter Heather George and great-grandchildren Lexi and Tori Spruill, of Duncan, Oklahoma; granddaughter Jennifer Evans and her husband, Aric, and great-grandchildren Rylie and Case, of Marlow, Oklahoma; grandsons Chris and Hunter Spruill, of Canton, Texas; daughter-in-law Jennifer Glasscock; granddaughter Katie Hutson and her husband, Tyler, and great-grandson J.R., of Dallas, Texas; cousin Sheila Bussey and her husband, David, of Duncan, Oklahoma; and niece Kaci and her husband, Matt, of Choctaw, Oklahoma.

Nancy was a truly remarkable woman. Her love and her goodness cannot be replaced on this Earth.
