Rachel Andrews Obituary

Funeral services for Rachel Lyndell Andrews will be held at 2 p.m. Eastern Time Saturday, June 4, 2022, via Zoom, from the Belvedere Park Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Columbus, Ga., with Brother Donald Stenson officiating.

Rachel Lyndell (Jones) Andrews was born Oct. 2, 1944, to Chesley Vernon and Gladys (Smith) Jones in Alexander City, Ala. She dedicated her life and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at age 11. She is a 1962 graduate of Hackneyville (Ala.) High School.

After high school she began serving as a full-time minister of Jehovah’s Witnesses, known as a pioneer. Some of her greatest joys in life were her years teaching the Bible in Talladega, Ala., and LaGrange, Ga. She married William Jennings Andrews on Sept. 16, 1967. He preceded her in death in 2018. Together they served as special full-time servants, known as “special pioneers,” in Sylvester, Ga. In 1973, she had her first child, Michael Aaron Andrews. In 1979, the family moved to Columbus, Ga., where she had her son Philip Alexander Andrews in 1980 and daughter Alona Marie Andrews in 1985. After the death of her brother Gerald, she became like a mother to her nephew Mark and niece Wendy.

From 1992 to 2003 she worked as a secretary in the guidance office of Kendrick High School in Columbus, Ga. But her greatest joy, along with her family, was helping numerous people come to a knowledge of Bible truth. In 2021, she moved to the island of Roatan, Honduras, where she became a legal resident and served in the Bight English congregation of Oakridge, Honduras at the time of her death.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Cecil Jones and Gerald Jones; sister, Mary Edwards; and niece, Tammy Jones.

She is survived by her son, Michael of Roatan, Honduras, and his wife Susan; son, Philip of Westminster, Co.; daughter-in-law, Traci Andrews of Athens, Ga.; daughter, Alona Shupe of Sandy Springs, Ga., and her husband, Alex; 3 grandchildren: Keely Andrews and Conor Andrews, Athens, Ga., and Adelaide Shupe, Sandy Springs, Ga.; nephew, Mark Jones, Columbus, Ga; niece, Wendy Murray and her husband Mark of Georgetown, Ga., and her children, Ethan and Abigail; nieces Catherine Cardenas and husband Horacio, and Cecilia Frazure and husband Jeff. She is also survived by a spiritual daughter-in-law, Michelle Andrews, Athens, Ga.
