Ray Dennis Mitchell was born January 25, 1946, in Ryan, Oklahoma, to Raymond Day and Dorothy Jean (Stanton) Mitchell. He passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at his home in Duncan. He was 79.

Funeral services are planned for Tuesday, March 11, at 10:00 a.m. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ron Meador officiating. Interment will follow in the Duncan Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are Michael Pirtle, Jay Tarter, Kevin Gaede, Ronnie Hutto, Evan Miles, Royal Moreno, and David Braswell.

Ray graduated from Duncan High School and later pursued further education, taking college courses at Connors State College before attending trade school to study computer programming. In high school, Ray was an accomplished athlete, playing basketball, football, and baseball. His passion for sports continued into college, where he also played baseball and football. Ray married his high school sweetheart Carolyn Sue Montgomery (Mitchell) on August 6th, 1965, and together, they moved to Odessa, Texas, where they started their family and raised three sons. Though their marriage ended after 20 years, they shared many years and memories together that Ray cherished deeply.

Ray was a hardworking entrepreneur who owned and operated a variety of businesses throughout his life, including Mitco Sprocket and Gear, D&R Automotive Shop, a drilling chemical company, and a bar called "The Location" in Odessa, Texas. Additionally, he owned Ray's Place in Duncan, where he created lasting memories and built strong relationships with many people.

Ray married Sherry Little on July 26, 2013, and together they moved to Duncan, where they enjoyed a fulfilling life together. Their love for each other grew with every passing day, and they cherished the years spent growing old side by side. Sadly, Sherry preceded him in death in 2023.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Dorothy Mitchell; wife, Sherry Mitchell; and sister, Patricia Mitchell Simmons. Ray is survived by his children: Jon Enoch Mitchell and wife Sarah Mitchell, Mark Ryan Mitchell and wife Ashley Mitchell, Kreig Damon Mitchell and wife Crystal Mitchell, Jolie Hendrick and wife Morgan Hendrick, and David Braswell. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride; and niece, Sandra Bares and husband Tony Bares. Ray will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
