Reginald Marvin Lasater, born on February 2, 1933, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2022. He was born to Ralph Lasater and Vera McPhail Lasater in Oklahoma City. He had two sisters, Patricia Lasater Bolerjack and Thelma Jean Lasater, and a brother, Ralph Dale Lasater.
He attended school in Oklahoma City and graduated from Central High School in 1950. He attended Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho, for one year but returned to Oklahoma City and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Central State College. He then went on to Oklahoma A&M college receiving his Master of Science degree in Chemistry in 1958 from Oklahoma State University.
In 1953, he met Glenna Yarbrough on a blind date, and they were married on June 3, 1956, in Wellington, Texas. With their education complete, Reg took a job in 1957 at Halliburton Oil Well Cementing Company in Duncan, Oklahoma.
Reg held several positions over his thirty-eight-year tenure in the Chemical Research Department. He loved teaching school on oil well stimulation and traveled internationally throughout Europe, the Middle East, and South America as well as across the U.S. Reg retired from Halliburton as the Director of the Research and Development Center in February of 1994. He was a lifetime member of the American Chemical Society and member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
Reg and Glenna are the proud parents of Michael Kevin Lasater, born in January 1959 and Michele Elaine Lasater Evans, born in August 1962. They have a precious granddaughter, Lindsey Sommer Lasater in Chicago, Illinois.
Reg was a supportive and caring father to both Kevin and Michele. When Kevin was growing up, he helped with the boy scouts where Kevin received his Eagle Scout Badge. He also enjoyed spending time teaching Michele and her classmates about chemistry.
Reg was very active in the Duncan community. He joined the First United Methodist Church in 1958 and was a faithful member and served on several committees. As a member of the Elk’s Organization which supports veterans, youth, and local charities, Reg served in all seven offices in the local organization. During his tenure as the Exalted Ruler, his Ritual Team won the national competition for the initiation ceremony. In addition, he was the chief landscaper for their neighborhood Stagestand entrance, making sure it was kept in tip top shape.
Reg and Glenna both shared a passion for traveling and the game of golf. Their favorite place being Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where they shared 39 years of memories with their family and friends. Reg loved to play golf and shared that love with his wife, children and granddaughter. Reg was a very skilled golfer and spent many summers teaching and watching Lindsey play tournaments.
Reg was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother. He is survived by his loving wife Glenna Lasater of 66 years, son Kevin Lasater from Fort Worth, TX, daughter, Michele Lasater Evans and husband Jerry Evans from Edmond, OK and granddaughter Lindsey Lasater of Chicago, IL. He has one brother-in-law, the REV. Dr. R.T. Bolerjack and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 7, at 2:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Rudy Freese officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First United Methodist Church Orchestra Fund, the Duncan Regional Hospital Chisholm Trail Hospice, the Duncan Regional Hospital Foundation, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
