Richard Herndon Obituary

Richard Herndon was born to Rev. Harold and Bettye Havlik Herndon on August 11, 1951 in Woodward, Oklahoma. Richard departed this life for his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.

Being a pastor’s son, Richard went to schools in several states. Richard graduated high school in Ulysses, Kansas. Richard graduated from Southwestern State College in 1973 with a degree in music education. Richard was gifted with an amazing musical talent. He played the flute, piano, trumpet, drums, and marimba. He once played a ‘Silent Night’ solo on the drums at church. His passion was the marimba, which he played at church until his health declined. Richard married Jan Griffin on May 21, 1976 in Lawton, Oklahoma. To this union Richard’s daughter, Erin, was born. Erin was the apple of his eye, and together they traveled extensively. Richard worked at various jobs but in 2015 he retired from Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Richard received the award for meritorious civilian service, the second highest civilian award, along with other numerous awards during his time at Peterson. Richard never missed an opportunity to get in a good rib. Richard was loved and will be missed for his quick wit.
