Richard Saltzman Obituary

Richard Dean Saltzman was born on Feb. 17, 1953 in San Mateo, California to Donald and Virginia Saltzman. Richard passed away on Oct. 31, 2021 at the age of 68 at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Richard graduated from high school in 1971 from Pacifica, California. While there, Richard was a member of the football team. It was also during this time, Richard developed his love of craftsmanship in wood shop class.

After graduation, Richard enlisted in the California National Guard, then he was drafted into the United States Army where he additionally moved into nursing training.

For a number of years, Richard was a member of the Country Corporation Band, playing at several locations throughout California. Richard’s hobbies included the love of guitar playing, card games and additionally, he was an avid reader.

Richard served his basic training in San Antonio, Texas. He received his medical training at Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver, Colorado and his LVN Training at Letterman’s Hospital in San Francisco. He finished up his military service career with the California National Guard at Fort Funston, California.
For a number of years, Richard worked as an LVN in the Emergency Room at Emanuel Hospital in Turlock, California where he would enjoy pulling pranks on many co-workers.

After working as an LVN, Richard changed careers and worked at Brenton Safety in South San Francisco, California and later he worked at H2 Scan in Valencia, California. Next, he moved to work at RKI Instruments, Inc. in Hayward, California which gave him the opportunity to travel to Japan and throughout the United States for several years.

Semi-retired from RKI, Richard and his business partner, Ken Witzel, started their business, Polaris Systems, Inc. and continued there until full retirement.
Richard was a member of First General Baptist Church of Oakdale, California. After moving to Duncan, Richard would attend Praise Assembly Church in Comanche.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Elton Saltzman, Violet Virginia Saltzman; his brother, Charles Saltzman; his nephew, Matthew Saltzman; his uncle, Edward Saltzman; and his aunt, Dorotha Carmer.

Richard is survived by his brother and sisters: Allen (Lois) Saltzman of Lenoir City, Tennessee; Linda Rice of Duncan, Oklahoma; and Carol (Carl) Gregor of Duncan, Oklahoma. He was a beloved “Gruncle” to two nephews, three nieces, seven great nieces, one great nephew, two great-great nieces, one great-great nephew and his honorary family members, Dorothy Costa, Marcia Hartigan and Stephanie (Gary) Brady of Eagle Mountain, Utah.

A Celebration of Life will be hosted at 3 p.m. on Sat. Nov. 6 at Praise Assembly Church in Comanche, Oklahoma. All arrangements are being handled at Whitt Funeral Home located at 4748 N Hwy 81, Duncan, Oklahoma 73533 and additional information can be found at www.whittfh.com.
