Robert Wendel Davenport

Robert W. Davenport, of Duncan, was born near Corum, Oklahoma on December 4, 1932 to Robert Bryan and Alice Eugenie (Haas) Davenport. He completed his earthly journey and met Jesus at the age of 92 on Saturday, October 11, 2025, with family at his side.

His family will greet visitors on Tuesday, October 14, from 5:30-7:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, October 15, at 1:30 P.M. at New Hope Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Southerland officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Jerry Williams, Jim Whitt, Jason Crow, Chris Talley, Jeremy Stowe, Dylan Crow and Jordan Talley; honorary pallbearers are Raelyn Crow, Layla Talley, Logan Talley, Deakon Crow, Colbie McCubbin, Eli Stowe and Lydia Stowe. Interment will follow at Duncan Municipal Cemetery.

Robert graduated from Comanche High School with the class of 1950. He enjoyed playing football and showing cattle while in school. After graduation he worked in two local bowling alleys, Dunbar Lanes and later at Holiday Bowl. He moved into the lumber yard business, going to work for CD Shamburger. His final employment started in 1964 at Duncan Builders Supply, which he co-owned with MJ "Mutt" Lewis while serving as the General Manager. He worked hard his entire life until his retirement in 2003. During his retirement years, he loved to play golf and travel until his health hindered those activities. His faith was of upmost importance to his life which he shared with many people through his teaching of Sunday School classes first at Calvary Baptist Church and then Immanuel Baptist Church. He was honored to serve as a Deacon at both of those churches as well. In his later life, he was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and mother of his children Joy Williams Davenport; and two sisters: Maxine Hasty and Marinell Tucker. Robert is survived by his wife of 20 years, Barbara; daughters and sons-in-law: Barbara "Bobbi" and Jerry Williams, Deborah "Debbie" and Jim Whitt; grandchildren: Amy and Chris Talley, Kelli McCubbin and Jeremy Stowe, Jason and Cari Crow, Katy Whitt, Kara Whitt; and great grandchildren: Dylan Crow, Jordan Talley, Raelyn Crow, Layla Talley, Logan Talley, Deakon Crow, Colbie McCubbin, Eli Stowe, Lydia Stowe. He is also survived by his brother, Lynn and Diane Davenport; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other family members and friends.
