Robert "Dana" Cates was born in Duncan, Oklahoma on April 8, 1953, to Robert Lafayette Cates Jr. and Marsha Vale (Smith) Cates. He passed away at his home in Oklahoma City on Tuesday, October 17, at the age of 70.
Visitation is planned for Sunday, October 22, at Whitt Funeral Home from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. A graveside service is planned for 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 23 at the Duncan Municipal Cemetery with Ronnie Brock officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Dana graduated from Duncan High School. He was self-employed as a painter. During his younger years, he played guitar in a classic rock band. Dana loved OU football, the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed watching old television shows such as "The Andy Griffith Show", "Gunsmoke", and "Matlock" along with game shows. Dana loved his family and enjoyed visiting his grandchildren. He was happy also loved being pampered and taken care of.
Preceded in death by his parents and son, Robert Christian Cates, Dana is survived by his daughter-in-law, Stephanie Cates, and his grandchildren, Tyler Cates and Bradley Cates.
