Roland W. Gay was born May 28, 1931 in Mankins, Texas to Henry Grady and Mattie Cornelia (Waldrep) Gay. He completed his earthly journey on Monday, March 15, 2021, surrounded by his loving wife and family at his home in Duncan. He was 89.
The family will receive visitors Wednesday, March 17, from 5:30-7:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 18, at 2:00 P.M. at New Hope Baptist Church West with Pastor Randy Southerland officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be James Curry, Russell Hulme, Greg Shepherd, Danny Ford, Charlie Gay, and Danny Leu. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Daily Living Sunday School class. Interment will follow in the Duncan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Roland graduated from Duncan High School in 1948. He then attended Oklahoma A&M, known today as Oklahoma State University. In 1950, he received a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a 4-year program that he completed in just 2 years. He started his working career at Halliburton Services in 1950, retiring as Manager of Field Safety in 1981 with 31 years of service. He then became co-owner of Gay Drilling Contractors.
He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church West, where he attended the Daily Living Sunday School class.
Roland is survived by his wife, Jerri; children: Larry Roland and wife Suzie Gay and Robert Grady and wife Janet Gay; stepson, Joe Bob Henley, Jr. and wife Mary; 8 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; brother-in-law, Joe S. Wall; and sisters-in-law, Shirley Gay, Faye Hobson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jo Anne; daughter, Deborah Anne Parks; 1 great grandson, Luke Gay; brothers, Alvin Grady Gay and Charles Wallace Gay; and sisters-in-law, Murldean Gay and Willa Mae Thomas.
