Ronald Gibson Obituary

Ronald ”Ron” Gene Gibson met his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 16, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Ron was born on August 14, 1943, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Armand Eddie and Lela Evangeline Gibson.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 22, at 1:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Janice Sharp officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

Ron graduated from Wewoka High School in 1962 and obtained an Associate’s degree in drafting at Okmulgee Tech in Okmulgee, OK. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1964 and then transferred to the Oklahoma Air National Guard where he was a member of the Fire, Crash and Rescue Unit from 1964 to 1969. On May 22, 1969, he married Kathy Richardson in Duncan. Together, they raised 3 daughters – Tana, Michelle, and Courtney.

He worked for many years for Halliburton Services in the Technology Department. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a Leader in Ducks Unlimited and the National Wildlife Turkey Federation. He was a master of BBQ as many who attended the 4th of July family picnics would agree. He loved cooking and shared that love with his grandchildren. He quietly and willingly served anytime he was aware of someone in need.

Ron is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathy; 3 daughters, Tana and husband Jay Boersma of Fountain Hills, AZ, Michelle and husband Mike Gibson of Allen, TX, and Courtney and husband Marcus Robinson of McKinney, TX; 7 grandchildren, Jesse, Ainsley and Jack Boersma, Mason and Miles Gibson, Kingston and Savannah Robinson; 1 sister, June and husband Ben Cherry of Green Valley, AZ.; and mother-in-law, Ann Richardson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Armand and Lela Gibson; and his father-in-law, Cecil Richardson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ron’s name to Chisholm Trail Hospice, 2000 Elk Ave, Duncan, OK 73533, or to the FUMC Youth Ministry, 2300 Country Club Road, Duncan, OK 73533 – Ron has donated his 13 acres of land to the FUMC Youth Ministry for outdoor events and educational programs.
