Sally Anderson Obituary

Sally Jo Kilgore Anderson passed away on October 11, 2021 at the age of 91. A memorial service will be held on October 18, 1:00 P.M., at the First Christian Church with Kathy Gibson officiating. The family will have a visitation on October 17 from 2:00 to 4:00 at the Whitt Funeral Home. Arrangements are with Whitt Funeral Home with interment at the Duncan Cemetery. Sally was born on February 24, 1930 in Nocona, Texas to James Grover Kilgore and Ruby Ruth Kilgore, long time residents of Duncan.

Graduating from Duncan High School in 1948, she went to the Texas State College for Women and then to the University of Oklahoma. She remained an avid OU football along with her father. She also studied art at the University of Sciences and Arts of Oklahoma.

Sally married Terry Owen Anderson of Wichita Falls, Texas on February 3, 1951 and had three loving children. This marriage ended in 1981. She was a charter member of Hestian Study Club and an active member in the First Christian Church. As a very positive person she always kept active with gardening, painting, cooking, and traveling.

After raising her children she put her energies to helping people by creating the “Formerly Married” Group, which focused on supporting people to get their lives back together after a divorce or death. She also served on the board of the Stephens County Mental Health Association. She enjoyed painting, drawing, embroidering and reading and was able to realize a dream of traveling to many historic countries throughout Europe, Greece and Russia.

Sally put her talents to writing, and wrote several travel journals, which her daughter Julie had published. She also compiled a book of her life in Germany during 1952-1953 and is also published.

Sally was very active in gardening and creating a beautiful landscape around her home, as well as an excellent cook and was well known at church for her pecan pie and lemon pound cake. Her home always welcomed festivities like birthdays, class reunions and church gatherings, as she was talented in being the perfect hostess.

Survivors include her son, James Douglas (Doug) Anderson and wife Peggy of Wildwood Missouri, Julie Preston and husband Jim Preston of Anna Texas and Emily DeHart and Husband Duane DeHart of Duncan. Grandchildren Kristin and Ben Terpstra, Lauren and Jim Arnet and Brennan DeHart. Great-Grandchildren are Samantha Arnet and Branwen Terpstra.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Jan Ellen Kilgore Click and a friend of many years Gene Lynch.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church of Duncan, or a favorite charity of your choice.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Elk Crossing Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center for their wonderful care, friendship and love that they extended to Sally. Sincere thanks also go to Dr. Mathew Ivory for his care.
